What's This All About?
FAA Academy Has Compliance Problems
with the Federal Records Act

Subject: Student Records
To All,
A recent review of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) policies for records disposition has revealed that there is not currently a schedule for the disposition of Academy Training Student Records. As a result the following policy is invoked for the Air Traffic Division until such time a schedule can be established.
All FAA Academy Air Traffic Division student training documents and records must be retained. That is, all documents used for a class and all training records generated for each student in that class. Documents and records may be maintained electronically in a pre-defined storage file/container (ex.: KSN SharePoint site, identified system if records, etc.). The hard copy (all the paper files) cannot be shredded or destroyed. Further information is forthcoming.
AMA/AMC are working to establish an appropriate process for handling, storing, and transferring Academy student training documents. We will update you as soon as possible.
Thanks,
